Good News Club Training

“Who needs training anyway? I already know all the Bible stories and have been teaching Sunday School for 10 years.” That is what I was thinking when my pastor “strongly suggested” that all Sunday School workers attend a training from a CEF staffer, a friend of his.

Little did I know that 1 hour training would revolutionize my thinking about teaching children. I learned how to weave the GOSPEL into every BIBLE LESSON.

Now 40 odd years later, I know that God had a purpose that day if only to reach ME, humble me, love me, and prepare me to serve Him and children more effectively.

Annual Fall GNC Training

Our annual fall training session for Good News Club® teachers and other volunteers is scheduled for September 7, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown at 1004 Yorktown Rd
Yorktown, Va. 23693. This training session will be similar to those that we have held for the last 3 years, drawing upon the QuickStart videos that have been produced by CEF® Headquarters.

If you have never attended a training session, please try to fit this into your schedule. The materials provide a deeper understanding of the content of the CEF materials and the rationale, based on 82 years of experience, for presenting the materials in the way that we do.

From the founding of CEF in 1937, the only purpose of the organization has been to provide a clear statement of the core gospel truths in terms that a child can understand. With the help of the Holy Spirit, these truths have the potential to change the hearts and attitudes of the children in a way that is enduring.

Over time, the materials have been adapted to changes in technology and of understanding of learning styles. At every phase in the evolution of the materials, CEF has viewed training of teachers and other volunteers as being at least as important as the content of the materials. In fact, though the CEF materials are sold to the public, a teaching session cannot be labeled as a Good News Club unless the materials are presented by persons who have been trained by CEF in the presentation of the materials.

The QuickStart videos provide excellent examples of the teaching methods and of the reasons for the methods. In fact, there is really too much information to absorb in one very intense day. Even if you have seen the videos several times, please come back as often as you can so that you can gain a deeper understanding of the methods and the team dynamics that have proven effective in reaching children for Christ.
