Freedom is on our mind after celebrating July 4th – the day that brave men declared independence from tyranny. That actual independence was won through the sacrifice of many men and women, often unseen and unacknowledged. As a result, today I enjoy the many freedoms granted to a citizen of our great country. I am so grateful!

Freedom is also a gift that God holds in store for any one person who will humbly come to Him. Humbly – because that freedom from sin and shame was won through the great sacrifice of God’s own Son.  I am so grateful! When I cried out to God and humbly asked Him to apply Jesus’ blood sacrifice to me, I became a citizen of His kingdom!

Paul wrote to the believers at Colossae: we pray for you…

“giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians 1:12-13 (ESV)

Again in Romans 8:1-2 we have the promise:

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” (ESV)

May our gratitude – yours and mine – move us to show our love for the Lord through obedience and tell others about this freedom we enjoy.
